The Burlington Performing Arts Centre provides both excellent acoustics and audience intimacy within a landmark downtown building. In addition to providing a strong link between performer and audience, the building serves as an object of civic pride and as a catalyst for a renaissance of the arts in the region. Through a combination of materials, colour, texture, lighting and architectural form the building respects its surroundings while bringing unique architectural expression to downtown Burlington.
The wood-lined 730-seat Main Theatre features the outstanding acoustics required by major symphony orchestras and the level of intimacy expected for drama. Designed in the classical “shoebox” proportion, the theatre is designed for exemplary sightlines and provides the technical infrastructure for the most demanding performances. A separate Studio Theatre provides a smaller intimate setting for an audience of 221 on the main level and 40 at a mezzanine level for cabaret, stand-up comedy or experimental theatre. Both venues open onto a large glazed public Lobby and Galleria that also open to an outside public plaza and a more private terrace.
