The Port Colborne Health and Wellness Centre is 140,000 sf LEED Silver community recreation centre and spectator venue in a 35 ha. multi-sport park in town centre. The project site and building were planned to elevate the profile of Port Colborne as a regional sports tourism destination, attracting tournaments as well as providing for scheduled programming. The complex has two spectator arenas with a second level concourse/running track, a large multi-use field house and an aquatic centre. The pool is used for training, instructional programs and local recreational use, and has a 6 lane 25 m. pool basin paired with a warm water shallow water basin. The operation of the project is a joint responsibility shared between the municipality and the YMCA of Niagara. The YMCA is responsible for programming of the aquatic centre, a second level fitness and weight training studio overlooking the pool hall, and the large field house. Other facilities include multi-purpose rooms, seniors centre and a child care centre.
