If you own a home that has been built in the last 20 years or so, chances are that it has a forced air heating system. This is because forced air is the cheapest method of heating for builders to install. Unfortunately though, forced air is not the healthiest or most efficient type of heat for you.

I’m sure you’ve heard this before … radiant heating is by far the most comfortable form and efficient heating method available. People and objects are warmed directly the same way as they are by the sun even on a cool day. Radiant heating is natural, silent, draft free and odorless. Research has proven that radiant heating can provide energy savings over traditional air systems. In fact you can achieve the same comfort levels simply by setting your thermostats 2-3° lower on a radiant system when compared to an air system.

Radiant heating systems are available in many forms, they can installed in the floor (floor heating), installed on the wall (radiators) or mounted in an ceiling application (more of a commercial application). These systems depend largely on radiant heat transfer: heating is directly from a hot surface to the people and objects in the room via the radiation of heat.

Radiant heating has a number of advantages: it is more efficient than forced-air heating because no energy is lost through ducts. With the lack of moving air, this can be advantageous to people with severe allergies and asthma. Hydronic (hot water) systems use little electricity, a benefit for homes off the power grid or in areas with high electricity prices. Hydronic systems can also be heated with a wide variety of energy sources, including standard gas, oil-fired or electric boilers, wood-fired boilers, solar water heaters, geothermal or some combination of these heat sources.

Energy efficiency today is more important than ever as energy costs are rising and will to continue to rise. An energy efficient radiant heating system will save you money every month and add resale value to your home or commercial building.

When you stand in the sun, you feel the warmth of radiant heat. Radiant heat is effectively absorbed throughout the body from head to toe creating a much more powerful, stimulating effect in the skin. With today’s technology radiant heating is clearly the best overall choice for your home or business system.
